The Work

Vertigo

I spent years learning how to build things that stand up. This painting is about the things that spill over — an exploration of the energy that cannot be contained by a blueprint. Adriano Prates
The Gift

How Vertigo arrived

Vertigo did not enter the House through a curator or a collector. It arrived through friendship.

On the 18th of April 2026, a circle of close friends came together to give this piece as a birthday gift. Vertigo now hangs in the House permanently — not as decoration, not as an acquisition, but as a record of the people who chose it, and the love they sent with it.

The Dedication

Different worlds meet in an unstable balance.

There is always an impulse to build, to move forward.

We cannot stand still.

Vertigo is ambition — a force that challenges and risks,

unafraid to embrace the unknown.

The Patrons

With gratitude

Maria André & Sara Botto & Pupa Adriano Chico & Vivian Rita & David Diego & Carol Leonor & Pedro Zózimo Zé Pedro & Vânia Vaz & Madalena Raquel & Miguel Miguel & Sónia

To each of you — thank you. The House holds this piece, but the piece holds all of you. Every guest who pauses before it is also pausing before you.

The Host's Note

Why it stays

My grandmother Beatriz taught me that a home is not defined by its walls, but by the connections held within them. Vertigo is proof of that lesson.

To receive a work of art from the people closest to you — and, in this case, with the artist himself among them — is to be reminded of who you are, and of the company you keep.

This painting will hang in the House for as long as the House stands. Not as an object. As a record of friendship.
